Hyderabad: Cybersecurity company Proofpoint is expanding in India with a new AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad. It plans to hire more than 200 engineers there over the next 12 to 24 months.

The centre will develop security technology for AI systems, building on Acuvity, a business Proofpoint bought recently. Acuvity’s products cover the governance and protection of AI applications, copilots and AI agents. Proofpoint is also opening an office in Delhi.

“India is at the intersection of three major shifts: rapid AI adoption, an increasingly sophisticated threat landscape and a new era of data protection and compliance.”

Sumit Dhawan, CEO, Proofpoint

Proofpoint says its India business has tripled in the past 12 months, and the number of users it protects has risen by more than 600% over 18 months. It already has more than 550 extended team members at its centre in Pune, and has run a data centre in India for local customers since the third quarter of 2025.

Our analysis

India is now both Proofpoint’s fastest-growing market and the place where it will build its AI security products. Few companies use one country for both. Its Hyderabad engineers will be building for customers in their own market, which puts India at the centre of Proofpoint’s plans rather than at the edge.
