Mumbai: Canadian investor La Caisse, formerly CDPQ, has paid about ₹121 billion for 24% of Altius Telecom Infrastructure Trust, the largest independent owner of telecom towers in India.
The deal is complete. Brookfield remains Altius’s largest shareholder, alongside La Caisse and affiliates of GIC and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.
Altius owns and runs more than 258,000 towers and sites across India, which mobile operators use to provide 4G and 5G services.
“As India’s economy grows and more people and businesses rely on higher use of mobile data, the infrastructure behind those connections needs to keep pace.”
Emmanuel Jaclot, Executive Vice-President and Head of Infrastructure and Sustainability, La Caisse
La Caisse had CAD 552 billion in net assets at the end of June 2026.

Our analysis
Global pension funds now see India’s telecom infrastructure as something to hold for decades, not to trade. La Caisse is betting that Indians will keep using more mobile data, and that Altius’s towers will stay in demand. For Altius, one more long-term shareholder means stable backing as mobile networks grow.
