Bengaluru: Aerospace group Safran has signed long-term supply agreements with Indian manufacturer Aequs for critical aircraft components.
The agreements widen Aequs’s existing work for Safran Landing Systems to include Safran Aerosystems. Aequs will machine superalloy parts, carry out complex machining and coating, and assemble landing gear components for the Airbus A320, A330 and A350 and the Boeing 787.
The work will be done at Aequs’s aerospace cluster in Belagavi, Karnataka, which handles forging, machining, surface treatment and assembly. More capacity will come from a new engine components facility the company is building in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
“The components Aequs will manufacture for Safran are among the most demanding flight-critical products to industrialize.”
Aravind Melligeri, Executive Chairman and CEO, Aequs
The deals follow a contract signed in July 2026 with Safran Landing Systems to make complete wheels for the Airbus A320 family. That contract runs to 2042, and the wheels will be made entirely in India.

Our analysis
Safran is trusting an Indian supplier with parts that aircraft cannot fly without, on its biggest programmes. Each new contract makes the two companies more dependent on each other, and in aerospace that is how a supplier becomes hard to replace. Aequs gets work for years ahead, and India gets a larger share of high-value aircraft manufacturing.
