Amazon will invest $48 billion in India between 2026 and 2030, after adding $13 billion to expand its AI and cloud infrastructure, deepening the commitment of what is already the country’s largest foreign investor.
Announced on 25 June, the additional $13 billion builds on the $35 billion investment across its India businesses that Amazon flagged in 2025. The new spending will expand AWS data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, giving startups, enterprises and government access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, cloud technologies and developer tools.
The announcement coincided with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 25 June. Jassy said:
“As we grow Amazon in India, our business priorities align with India’s priorities of democratizing access to AI, digitizing small businesses, creating jobs, and enabling exports, and we are investing over $48 billion in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help India achieve these priorities. We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, we are committed to being a long-term partner in India’s growth story.”
Beyond AI and cloud, Amazon will keep building out the operations network behind its e-commerce and quick commerce business, with plans to launch more than 20 new fulfilment centres and over 100 new last-mile delivery stations in India this year, with a focus on faster delivery in tier 3 and tier 4 cities. A portion of a recently announced $300 million investment in operations and associate wellbeing will go toward “Sammaan,” a programme providing delivery associates with benefits including scholarships, insurance coverage and on-road safety measures.
The numbers behind Amazon’s India footprint are substantial. Its cumulative investment from 2010 to 2030 now stands at over $88 billion. Since launching in India, the company says it has digitised 12 million small businesses, enabled over $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, supported 2.8 million jobs and trained over 10 million Indians in cloud skills.
Through 2030, Amazon has committed to supporting 3.8 million jobs, $80 billion in cumulative exports, AI benefits for 15 million small businesses, and AI education for 4 million government school students. The company describes itself as the largest foreign investor in India and the largest enabler of e-commerce exports in the country.
