The French pharma giant is scaling its India operations well beyond support functions — Hyderabad is now handling drug research, AI, and clinical operations for Sanofi’s global business.
Sanofi has expanded its Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, adding over 2.7 lakh square metres of workspace to its existing Hitech City campus. The expanded centre can now host up to 4,500 employees, up from a projected 2,600 — placing it among the top three pharma GCCs in India by scale.
The inauguration was attended by Telangana IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu. The investment is described by Sanofi as “multi-hundred-million” though a specific figure has not been disclosed.
What Hyderabad is doing for Sanofi
The centre is not a peripheral operation. It supports end-to-end processes across drug research, development, manufacturing, and market access — functions that sit at the core of what a pharma company does. Roles span R&D, AI and digital innovation, data analytics, medical affairs, finance, procurement, and commercial operations.
Sanofi started the Hyderabad centre in 2019 with a narrow focus on medical services. Seven years later it has grown into one of the company’s largest talent concentrations anywhere in the world.
Why this matters
The pharmaceutical GCC model in India has historically tilted toward back-office and compliance work. Sanofi’s Hyderabad centre is a different proposition — it runs AI-driven clinical intelligence, supports global drug pipelines, and handles manufacturing operations data for a company that supplies markets across the world including from its Goa facility.
Scaling to 4,500 specialists in these functions is not a cost play. It is a structural decision about where Sanofi wants to build capability for the long term.
Sanofi’s India footprint
Sanofi has been in India for nearly seven decades. Its Goa manufacturing site produces for India and over 60 other countries. The company runs clinical trials in India, operates a humanitarian access programme for rare disease patients, and now anchors a significant portion of its global services from Hyderabad.
Sanofi is a French biopharma company headquartered in Paris, listed on Euronext Paris. It operates in over 100 countries.
