Mumbai: Global investment firm KKR has signed agreements for its funds to take a majority stake in Cisternina Logistics, which stores and moves bulk liquids and gas in India.
The money will fund Cisternina’s planned purchase of the liquid storage terminal and rail business of Ganesh Benzoplast Limited. That business will be Cisternina’s first major asset, and the company plans further acquisitions and new storage sites.
The Ganesh Benzoplast terminals include one of India’s leading privately owned tank farms, at Jawaharlal Nehru Port. Together they have about 500,000 kilolitres of storage, operating or under construction, at JNPT, Cochin and Goa.
“We see an opportunity to apply this platform-building approach to India’s liquid and gas logistics sector.”
Ravi Thanvi, Director, Real Assets, KKR India
Cisternina, founded in 2024, plans to build about 1.5 million kilolitres of storage and has signed agreements with the Chennai, Goa and Cochin ports. KKR is investing through its Asia Pacific infrastructure strategy. The terms were not disclosed.
The Narrative Republic: Partners in India’s Growth
Our analysis
KKR wants to build one national company in a business that is now spread across many small operators. Starting from an established port terminal, Cisternina can grow quickly through acquisitions and new sites. India’s ports would get a well-funded operator for the tank storage that fuel, chemicals and edible oils all need.
