Vanderlande Expands Its GCC in Pune

Vanderlande added a two acre innovation centre to its Pune GCC in February 2026, where about 1,300 people already work. The centre combines R&D, system testing and training for robotics, autonomous systems and AI used in warehouse, airport and parcel automation.

Vanderlande is a Dutch company headquartered in Veghel that builds automation systems for warehouses, airports and parcel networks. It reported revenue of €2.3 billion in FY2025, employs more than 11,000 people and is part of Japan’s Toyota Industries Corporation. Founded in 1949, it has baggage systems running at more than 600 airports, including 17 of the world’s top 20, and its parcel systems sort over 52 million parcels a day.

What the centre does

The Pune campus covers two acres and was inaugurated in February 2026. It puts research and development, system testing, training and global collaboration in one place. The focus areas are robotic automation, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence and the integration of digital and physical systems. The company says the setup gives the India team end to end ownership of Vanderlande systems.

Vanderlande India has more than 1,300 employees and grew over the years from a small support operation. Beyond innovation work, the India centre handles software development, core engineering and shared services. The company calls it its second largest technology hub after its headquarters in the Netherlands.

Why Pune

Vanderlande has not given specific reasons for choosing Pune for the innovation centre. The relevant fact is that its India capability centre, with more than 1,300 staff, already operates in the city, so the new facility builds on an established team rather than opening a fresh site.

What it signals

Adding testing and training capacity beside an existing engineering base suggests Vanderlande wants its India team to own more of the product cycle, not only pieces of design work. Calling India its second largest technology hub also places the centre inside how the company develops its core systems. With robotics and AI named as the centre’s focus, more of that work could now sit in India alongside the Netherlands base. The thing to watch is how much finished, tested work starts to come out of Pune.
