The Hartford Opens GCC in Hyderabad

The Hartford opened its first India technology centre in Hyderabad’s Financial District in October 2025, and the Telangana government formally inaugurated the 1,60,000 sq ft Global Technology Centre in February 2026, with headcount expected to grow to nearly 1,200 over the next few years.

The Hartford, founded in 1810 and headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut, is a Fortune 200 company working in property and casualty insurance, employee benefits and mutual funds, with more than 19,000 employees. It reported 2025 total revenues of USD 28.4 billion and net income of USD 3.8 billion. The Hyderabad technology centre is its first presence in India.

What the centre does

The company announced the Hyderabad technology centre in September 2025 and opened its first office in the city’s Financial District on 1 October 2025, on the top two floors of the Kalyani Trident building. The Telangana government formally inaugurated its Global Technology Centre on 23 February 2026. The facility covers about 1,60,000 sq ft and is expected to grow to nearly 1,200 employees over the next few years.

The centre focuses on AI, data, digital innovation and engineering, supporting the company’s enterprise wide technology transformation. It is set up to work like a start up, with rapid prototyping and cross time zone collaboration with The Hartford’s technology hubs in Hartford, Charlotte, Chicago and Columbus. Hiring covers AI, data science, cloud architecture and digital engineering. The company says it has spent a decade on digital modernisation and already uses AI and advanced analytics in decision making, and the India team is meant to speed that work up.

Why Hyderabad

The company said it chose Hyderabad for its thriving technology ecosystem, its diverse and skilled tech workforce and its reputation as a global innovation centre. At the inauguration, the state government placed the decision alongside Microsoft and Google, which built major centres in the city, and named McDonald’s, Vanguard, Dai-ichi Life and Marriott International as companies that made Hyderabad their landing point for capability centres in India.

What it signals

This is a first entry, but not a cautious one. An insurer more than 200 years old going from no Indian presence to a planned 1,200 people within a few years suggests that for this insurer, AI and data work rather than cost alone is driving the build. It also deepens the cluster of US and Asian financial firms in Hyderabad, which is likely to make the market for senior engineering and data talent in the city more competitive.
