Texas Instruments Expands Its GCC in Bengaluru

Texas Instruments inaugurated a new 550,000 sq ft R&D centre in Bengaluru in February 2026, as it marked 40 years in India. The site houses design labs and a full reliability lab for analog and embedded chip design.

Texas Instruments is a semiconductor company based in Dallas that designs and makes analog and embedded processing chips for industrial, automotive, personal electronics, enterprise systems and communications equipment markets. It reported revenue of $17.68 billion and net income of $5 billion for 2025. TI says it was the first multinational to set up an R&D centre in India, in 1985, and it now employs thousands of people in the country, where it has also recently opened an additional sales office.

What the centre does

The new Bengaluru campus covers about 5.5 lakh sq ft and was inaugurated on 7 February 2026 by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, marking TI’s 40th year in India. It brings together a collaborative workspace for advanced chip design, several integrated circuit design labs and an end to end reliability lab that tests chips under a wide range of environmental conditions.

The company said the centre will support its work in analog and embedded processing technologies, strengthen its support for India’s chip design ecosystem and serve its growing customer base in the country. TI has not disclosed the investment behind the site or how many engineers it will house.

Why Bengaluru

TI has not given specific reasons for choosing Bengaluru. Other multinational semiconductor firms have also been expanding design centres and engineering teams in the city, as well as in Hyderabad and Noida. At the inauguration, the Union Minister said TI’s expanded investment reinforces India’s position as a global hub for semiconductor design and development.

What it signals

A reliability lab is the telling detail here. TI has done design work in India since 1985, but an end to end reliability lab sitting next to the design labs means chips conceived in Bengaluru can also be stress tested there, which points to the India teams owning more of the development cycle. The timing also matters. With India pushing its semiconductor mission on both manufacturing and design, a 40 year incumbent opening a campus of this scale gives the country’s chip design pitch a credible anchor, and it adds competition for the same analog and embedded talent that newer entrants are chasing.
