Syensqo, the specialty chemicals group spun off from Solvay, inaugurated a global capability centre in Pune in February 2026. The centre runs core digital systems for the group’s worldwide operations, from cloud infrastructure and ERP to cybersecurity and AI driven analytics. Headcount and floor area were not disclosed.
Syensqo is a specialty chemicals company with its registered office in Brussels, created when Solvay split in two. Its shares began trading on Euronext Brussels and Euronext Paris on 11 December 2023. It reported 2025 net sales of €6.14 billion and underlying EBITDA of €1.21 billion, both lower than in 2024 and including an oil and gas business it now reports as discontinued, and it has more than 13,000 employees in 30 countries. The company has operated in India since 2005, with manufacturing in Gujarat and Maharashtra, a research and innovation centre in Vadodara and sustainable farming programmes in Rajasthan.
What the centre does
Syensqo inaugurated the Pune centre in February 2026, with Belgium’s economic counsellor and a Brussels trade and investment commissioner among those attending. It is set up to support the group’s core digital systems worldwide, including cloud platforms, ERP systems, cybersecurity and data and AI engineering.
The company presents the centre as a driver of innovation and of its global transformation programmes, and as part of a long term commitment to India. It has not disclosed headcount, floor area or investment. The Pune site complements a Global Business Services centre of about 2,000 square metres that Syensqo set up in Lisbon, announced in January 2025.
Why Pune
Syensqo has not given specific reasons for choosing Pune. The city lies in Maharashtra, one of the two states where the company already runs manufacturing, while its research centre is in Vadodara in Gujarat. The company has framed the new centre as part of a long term commitment to the country that dates back to 2005.
What it signals
Supporting cloud, ERP and cybersecurity for a group of more than 13,000 people from an Indian site hands Pune real responsibility, because these are systems the business cannot operate without. Taken together with Lisbon, Pune looks like part of a wider effort to give the young company shared services of its own after leaving Solvay. Its 2025 results, with sales and earnings both lower, may add a cost angle to that build out. Placing the IT hub in Maharashtra, where the company already manufactures, may also help when digital systems need to work closely with plants.
