Smartsheet Expands Its GCC in Bengaluru

Smartsheet said in March 2026 that it will add more than 200 people to its Bengaluru capability centre, which opened in 2025. New roles cover data science, DevSecOps, product management and design, alongside the existing engineering, IT, security and customer support teams.

Smartsheet is a work management software company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, with more than 120,000 customers, 16 million users and teams using it in 85% of the Fortune 500. Funds managed by Blackstone and Vista Equity Partners took it private in January 2025 in a deal valued at about USD 8.4 billion, ending its New York Stock Exchange listing. Its Indian customers include Infosys, Vedanta, Maruti Suzuki and Swiggy, and Bengaluru is its India base.

What the centre does

Smartsheet formally established its India global capabilities centre in Bengaluru in 2025. In March 2026 it announced an expansion, saying the team had beaten its first year targets and already built a software development engine fuelling core parts of the global product roadmap.

The centre covers product management, engineering, UX, IT, security and customer support, with work on product architecture, AI enabled workflows and the intelligence layer behind the platform. Smartsheet plans more than 200 new hires in 2026, including data scientists, DevSecOps engineers, product managers and UX designers, and is widening into marketing, sales, talent acquisition and general administration. It is recruiting at every level, from senior executives and experienced engineers to early career talent, and is pitching multi year career paths. It also points to a custom fitted office designed for colocation and collaboration, and expects the site to become one of its largest offices worldwide. Current headcount has not been disclosed.

Why Bengaluru

The company said Bengaluru offers a strong technology ecosystem, leadership depth and cross industry expertise in AI, engineering and cybersecurity. It sees the city as giving it access to a large, future ready talent pool and a technology base mature enough for building its AI products.

What it signals

Smartsheet moved from opening to expansion in about a year, and it is putting sales, marketing and support alongside engineering. That points to a full company hub rather than an offshore development team. It also shows a privately held, mid sized US software firm, not a tech giant or a bank, choosing Bengaluru as a place where its AI features get built.
