Proofpoint Opens GCC in Hyderabad

Proofpoint set up an AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad in August 2026, adding to its existing Pune centre. The cybersecurity company plans to hire more than 200 engineers over the next 12 to 24 months to build security for AI agents and copilots.

Proofpoint is a cybersecurity company headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, that describes itself as a global leader in human and agent cybersecurity. It says it works with more than 80 of the Fortune 100, over 14,000 large enterprises and millions of smaller organisations. In India it set up a dedicated local team in March 2025, runs a Centre of Excellence in Pune with more than 550 team members, and supports sales from hubs in Bengaluru and a new office in Delhi.

What the centre does

Proofpoint announced the AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad on 19 August 2026. The centre will work on next generation AI security technologies and the company’s AI security roadmap, including capabilities from Acuvity, an AI security and governance platform Proofpoint acquired in February 2026. That portfolio covers AI governance, runtime protection and security for AI applications, copilots and agents.

The company plans to hire 200 engineers for the Hyderabad centre over the next 12 to 24 months. The Pune centre continues to support global engineering, product development, customer support and technical services. Proofpoint said its India business tripled over the past 12 months, new customer acquisition has grown at a double digit rate, and seats protected rose more than 600% over 18 months. It has also run a local data centre for Indian customers since the third quarter of 2025 to meet compliance and data sovereignty needs.

Why Hyderabad

Proofpoint has not given reasons specific to Hyderabad. At the country level, the company pointed to India’s engineering talent, technology ecosystem and fast growing digital economy as reasons the country is well placed to advance AI security work. Hyderabad gives it a second engineering base in India alongside Pune.

What it signals

This is a product bet, not a support build. Placing Acuvity’s agent and AI application security work in Hyderabad about six months after the deal means India will help shape one of Proofpoint’s newest product lines. The split also gives each city a distinct job, with Pune carrying broad engineering, product and support work and Hyderabad taking the AI security mandate. Domestic demand adds a second reason to build here: the India business tripled in a year, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act is raising expectations on how organisations protect personal data, which gives the company a reason to build close to its customers as well as its talent.
