CIBC Opens GCC in Hyderabad

CIBC opened a global capabilities hub in Hyderabad in July 2026. The Canadian bank is using it to bring in house work that third party vendors used to handle, as part of its modernisation and client growth plans. Size and headcount were not disclosed.

CIBC, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, is a North American financial institution headquartered in Toronto, serving about 15 million personal banking, business, public sector and institutional clients. It reported revenue of C$29.1 billion and net income of C$8.5 billion for fiscal 2025, with 49,824 full time equivalent employees at 31 October 2025. Its businesses span personal and business banking, commercial banking, wealth management and capital markets across Canada, the US and international locations.

What the centre does

CIBC announced the opening of its global capabilities hub in Hyderabad on 7 July 2026, describing it as another step in the bank’s modernisation. The hub will bring in house work previously managed by third parties and is meant to speed up delivery on the bank’s strategic priorities and its client focused growth strategy. The company said the new team will be part of a global, highly connected network that draws on talent across Canada, the US, Europe and Asia.

CIBC has not disclosed headcount for the hub. Telangana government officials have said the centre is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs over time across software engineering, cloud, cybersecurity, AI and data roles. The project stems from an investment commitment made at the Telangana Rising Global Summit in 2025.

Why Hyderabad

CIBC has not publicly stated why it chose Hyderabad. Reports at the time of the announcement pointed to the city’s deep talent pool in fintech, data science and IT, backed by strong engineering colleges, and an ecosystem mature enough for global banks to run product development around the clock. Hyderabad now hosts over 450 GCCs and counts several large global banks and insurers among them.

What it signals

Insourcing is the headline. CIBC has said plainly that the hub will take over work previously handled by third parties, which puts control of that engineering and operations work back inside the bank. If the 2,000 job estimate from state officials holds, Hyderabad would become a sizeable addition to a bank of under 50,000 employees. It also adds a Canadian name to a city that already hosts many global banking and insurance centres, which tightens competition for experienced banking technologists there.
