The world’s largest steel company is building a 2,000-person India operation — running the digital backbone of a manufacturing network that spans 60 countries.
ArcelorMittal has launched its Global Capability Centre in India, operating under the name ArcelorMittal Global Business & Technologies — AMGBT. The centres sit across Hyderabad and Pune. Over 1,100 professionals are already working across both locations, with a hiring target of 2,000 across digital technology, IT infrastructure, data science, cybersecurity, and global business services.
The launch was opened digitally by Lakshmi Mittal alongside Vijay Goyal, Executive Vice President and Regional CEO, and Stephanie Werner-Dietz, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Human Resources.
What AMGBT runs
The centres handle digital technology, IT infrastructure, data and analytics, cybersecurity, finance and accounting, procurement, HR, and project management — functions that directly support ArcelorMittal’s worldwide operations. Teams own full solution lifecycles. Group CIO and CISO Nik Puri confirmed the centres are already delivering globally scaled projects and are building toward Centres of Excellence.
Lalit Kumar, CEO of AMGBT, said: “This launch reflects our strong belief in AMGBT’s purpose and vision. We are committed to collective success by enabling an environment where people can collaborate, innovate, and grow together.”
The bigger picture
ArcelorMittal operates in more than 60 countries with 125,416 employees, supplying steel to automotive, construction, appliances, and packaging industries across 18 countries. Most GCCs in India belong to technology or financial services companies. ArcelorMittal is a heavy industrial manufacturer. The data science, cybersecurity, and analytics work done here feeds directly into steel plant operations, raw material flows, and supply chain decisions across continents. That is what makes this a different kind of GCC story — and a signal that India’s capability centre model has expanded well beyond its software and finance roots.
ArcelorMittal is the world’s leading steel and mining company, headquartered in Luxembourg.
