Zurich Insurance Group announced a global capability centre in Hyderabad in April 2026. The insurer wants the centre to own engineering, data and core business operations end to end, and is hiring across cloud, platform engineering, AI, application development, cybersecurity and quality engineering. Headcount and floor space were not disclosed.
Zurich Insurance Group is a Swiss multi-line insurer headquartered in Zurich, with more than 65,000 employees serving customers in over 200 countries and territories. In 2025 it posted its highest ever business operating profit of USD 8.9 billion and net income attributable to shareholders of USD 6.8 billion. Its Indian insurance business is Zurich Kotak General Insurance, where it took a 70% stake for ₹5,560 crore in June 2024 through a mix of fresh capital and shares bought from Kotak Mahindra Bank, a deal it called the largest foreign investment in India’s general insurance market.
What the centre does
Zurich announced its Hyderabad global capability centre on 28 April 2026. The company describes it as a strategic extension of its global operating model, with end to end ownership of engineering, data and core business operations. Teams are meant to own the full life cycle of each solution, from design and build to execution, and contribute directly to the group’s global platforms and solutions.
Hiring is focused on cloud and platform engineering, data and AI, application development, cybersecurity and quality engineering. Zurich says AI enabled ways of working are built in from the start, and that a purpose built set up lets it develop technology free of legacy constraints. Alongside the launch, it appointed an India based head of its capability centres worldwide, effective 1 July 2026, who will also lead the Hyderabad build out. Headcount and investment have not been disclosed.
Why Hyderabad
Zurich’s stated reason is talent. The chief executive of its global business and operations unit said India is a key talent market for the group and that Hyderabad stands out for its depth of engineering expertise and innovation. The Telangana government counts financial firms such as Vanguard and Dai-ichi Life among the companies that chose Hyderabad for their capability centres, and The Hartford opened its first Indian technology centre in the city in 2025.
What it signals
The structure tells the story. Zurich is not moving routine tasks to a cheaper location. It is placing ownership of engineering and data platforms in Hyderabad and running its global capability centre network from India. Combined with its controlling stake in Zurich Kotak, India now matters to the group both as a market and as a place where core technology gets built. For India’s GCC market, it is one more case of an insurer setting up an AI led build centre rather than a service desk, and another financial services mandate for Hyderabad.
