WEX Opens Technology Centre in Bengaluru

WEX opened a new technology centre in Bengaluru in July 2026, adding a third Indian location to its sites in Chennai and Madurai. The centre houses teams in software engineering, product development, cloud architecture, data science, AI and cybersecurity. It works for the company’s mobility, corporate payments and benefits businesses.

WEX is a payments and commerce technology company headquartered in Portland, Maine. Its platforms help businesses manage fleet and mobility spending, run employee benefits programmes and make business to business payments. The company posted total revenue of about US$2.66 billion in 2025 and serves customers around the world.

What the centre will do

The Bengaluru teams act as an extension of WEX’s global engineering organisation rather than a separate support unit. They co develop and scale platforms across the three main business lines, Mobility, Corporate Payments and Health and Benefits, and contribute to both customer facing products and internal enterprise systems. When WEX first set out its Bengaluru plans in April 2025, it said the team would also support its data, AI and risk technology function.

Keshav Kowshik, head of operations for WEX India, leads the build out. The company has said it wants to develop specialised technical skills and grow local leaders at the site. At the 2025 announcement, WEX said it planned to hire about 190 developers, engineers and technology leaders. It has not given a headcount for the centre at opening.

Why Bengaluru

WEX picked Bengaluru for its engineering talent, its technology ecosystem and its mature product development culture. The city gives the company a far larger pool of software engineers, data specialists, cloud professionals and cybersecurity experts than its existing Indian locations. The company describes Bengaluru as central to its long term growth plans.

WEX’s India footprint

Before Bengaluru, WEX built its India presence in Chennai and Madurai, both in Tamil Nadu. The company now counts India as an integral part of its global technology organisation. The Bengaluru site shifts the mix toward product and platform engineering, while the existing locations continue to support the wider business.

What it signals

Payments firms are under pressure to ship new features fast while keeping systems secure, and many are moving more of that core engineering to India. WEX’s expansion from Tamil Nadu into Bengaluru follows a familiar path for financial technology companies that start with operations and then add product teams in the country’s largest tech hub.
