Abercrombie & Fitch Opens Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has opened a global capability centre in Bengaluru, the American apparel retailer said in August 2026. The company has made clear the centre is not a pure technology shop: it brings together people from several business functions to add capacity and deepen specialist skills across the enterprise.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange and based in Ohio, Abercrombie & Fitch sells clothing and accessories to customers from children to young adults through its Abercrombie and Hollister brands. It runs about 840 stores across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, along with online stores for each brand, and has set itself a target of reaching $5 billion in annual revenue.

What the centre will do

The Bengaluru centre is meant to strengthen capabilities across the whole company and support its global growth plans. Chief digital and technology officer Samir Desai has stressed that its remit goes well beyond technology. Early teams are being built in enterprise data and analytics, AI led personalisation, digital engineering and supply chain analytics, with roles spanning product engineering, quality engineering for marketing technology and agile delivery. Mangai Varadarajan, vice president and site leader, heads the centre, which she has described as an essential extension of the company’s global operations.

Why Bengaluru

Bengaluru has become the default first stop for American retailers building capability centres in India, with several large chains already running sizeable teams in the city. That gives a newcomer ready access to engineers and analysts who already understand retail data, merchandising and supply chains. Abercrombie & Fitch worked with ANSR, a firm that helps global companies set up and scale capability centres, to launch the site. Explore more on our page on GCCs in Bengaluru.

Abercrombie & Fitch’s India footprint

Bengaluru is where Abercrombie & Fitch has chosen to build its capability centre in India, working with a specialist setup partner to get it running. The company has not disclosed a headcount target or the size of the office, and its early hiring points to a team weighted toward data, engineering and supply chain skills.

What it signals

Abercrombie & Fitch is a midsize name compared with the retail giants that pioneered capability centres in India, so its arrival shows how far the model has spread. The emphasis on business functions alongside technology also reflects a wider trend, with retailers using their Indian teams for analytics, merchandising support and supply chain planning rather than only for software.
