HSBC has opened a new branch in Nagpur, Maharashtra, its first branch launch of 2026, extending a wealth-focused expansion across India’s industrial corridors.
The launch, announced on 25 April, follows four branch openings in 2025 under the Reserve Bank of India’s January 2025 approval for HSBC to open 20 new branches in key cities. HSBC, which has operated in India for over 170 years, ran a network of 31 branches across 19 cities at the time of the announcement.
Nagpur sits in Maharashtra, India’s largest state economy in absolute terms according to the Economic Survey of Maharashtra 2025-26, which leads the country on investment, banking activity and GST collections. With proximity to key freight corridors, Nagpur has emerged as a hub for commerce, manufacturing, logistics and services. HSBC is pitching the branch at businesses and globally minded individuals and families with cross-border needs, served through its International Wealth and Premier Banking arm alongside its Corporate and Institutional Banking franchise.
The branch targets affluent, high-net-worth, ultra-high-net-worth and non-resident Indian clients.
Sandeep Batra, Head of International Wealth and Premier Banking, HSBC India, said:
“Nagpur’s growth story is being shaped by rising aspirations, increasing entrepreneurship and deeper links to India’s and the world’s economic corridors. As India’s leading international bank, we remain focused on helping our clients seize opportunities and achieve their ambitions, whether in India or internationally. Our new branch in Nagpur reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional banking solutions right where our customers need us.”
Alongside the launch, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, with leadership teams from HSBC India and CORO India, inaugurated a community-led women entrepreneurship project in Vidarbha, part of HSBC’s CSR initiatives in Maharashtra. The programme supports sustainable livelihoods for tribal communities, built around enabling local leadership as a replicable model.
The Nagpur opening followed HSBC branches in Amritsar, Indore, Vadodara and Lucknow in 2025. The bank has further branches planned in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Faridabad, Jalandhar, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Mysuru, Nashik, Navi Mumbai, Patna, Rajkot, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram and Vishakhapatnam.
HSBC India employs around 47,000 people across banking, investment banking and capital markets, asset management, insurance, software development and global resourcing. Its parent, HSBC Holdings plc, is headquartered in London and held assets of US$3,233 billion as of 31 December 2025.
