Sumitomo Chemical Company holds 75 percent of Sumitomo Chemical India Limited, its listed Indian subsidiary, which absorbed Excel Crop Care through a merger. Sumitomo Chemical India Limited is listed on the NSE and BSE under the symbol SUMICHEM.

Sumitomo Chemical's India business
Sumitomo Chemical set up its Indian subsidiary in 2000 as a manufacturing and marketing base for crop protection products. Excel Crop Care, in which Sumitomo Chemical acquired a majority stake in 2016, merged into Sumitomo Chemical India, which listed in January 2020.
As of March 2025 the company ran plants at Bhavnagar, Gajod, Tarapur, Vapi and Silvassa, with research labs in Mumbai, Bhavnagar and Gajod. It had 1,339 permanent employees and 283 permanent workers in FY2026.
