Unipart opened a global IT centre of excellence in Pune on 12 May 2026. The centre has around 100 IT specialists and will support the group’s projects around the world.
Unipart is a British supply chain, logistics, manufacturing and consultancy group headquartered in Oxford. It has about 50 years of history and more than 8,000 colleagues serving the United Kingdom and 22 international markets. Darren Leigh is chief executive.
What the centre will do
The Pune team covers applications, network and IT infrastructure, automation and analytics, business solutions and services, SAP and cybersecurity. Rather than handling only routine support, the centre is designed to lead complex IT projects across the group globally. That gives it a broader remit than a typical service desk, spanning the core business systems Unipart relies on to run warehouses, supply chains and manufacturing operations for its clients. Leigh and IT director Richard Gifford attended the launch.
Why Pune
Unipart chose Pune for its strong academic network and stable IT talent market, which together produce a steady supply of job ready graduates. The city also has a long track record of SAP, infrastructure and enterprise IT work for global manufacturers and logistics firms, which suits the mix of skills the centre needs. A stable workforce matters for a group that wants continuity on multi year IT programmes.
Unipart’s India footprint
Unipart previously ran a more traditional IT support function in Mumbai. The Pune centre marks a step change from that model. It moves the company’s India presence from a support role to a hub that leads global work, and puts around 100 people in one location focused on the group’s technology needs.
What it signals
The move fits a broader pattern among European industrial and logistics companies, which are turning Indian support teams into capability centres that own projects end to end. Pune in particular has drawn many manufacturing and supply chain groups looking for SAP and enterprise IT depth. Unipart’s shift from Mumbai support to a Pune centre of excellence follows that trend.
