Lexitas Opens New Chennai Facility for GCC and AI Hub

Lexitas has opened a new facility in Chennai that brings together its global capability centre, an AI innovation hub and a strategic operations centre. The company announced the move on 7 September 2026. About 60 people work at the site today, and Lexitas expects to reach close to 100 by the end of 2026, with room to grow beyond that.

Lexitas is a Houston based provider of litigation support services for law firms, courts, corporations, insurers and claims administrators. Founded in 1987, it offers court reporting, medical record retrieval, process service, document review, contracts outsourcing and legal staffing. It has more than 1,300 full time staff, and Nishat Mehta is chief executive.

What the centre will do

The Chennai site covers research and development, data operations, finance, information technology, human resources and recruiting, among other functions. The company describes the centre as its base for AI innovation, product development, enterprise data work and shared services. In practice that means building the AI enabled tools that sit behind its legal services while running back office work for the wider group. Vignesh Ramamurthy, senior vice president and managing director for India, leads the operation.

Why Chennai

Chennai was already home to Lexitas’s Indian team, so the new facility builds on an existing base. The office is on Rajiv Gandhi Salai in Perungudi, part of the city’s main IT corridor, where many capability centres sit. Company leaders have said Chennai has become an increasingly important part of their global strategy. More on the city’s centres is on our Chennai GCC page.

Lexitas’s India footprint

Lexitas started its India operations in July 2024 and in April 2025 described its Chennai centre as a global technology hub focused on research, product development and AI. The new facility is the next step, folding operations and shared services into the same site. Chennai is the company’s only confirmed India location.

What it signals

Legal services firms have been slower than banks or tech companies to build Indian capability centres. Lexitas has moved from a first team to a combined engineering and operations site in about two years, a sign that legal technology work is starting to follow the same offshore path.
