HMH Expands Pune Global Capability Centre With Larger Office

HMH has moved its Pune global capability centre into a new office in Shivaji Nagar, a 24,000 square foot space with seating for more than 230 people. The move, completed in June 2026, gives a larger home to a team that now numbers about 300 and builds the digital products behind the company’s learning programmes.

HMH is one of the largest providers of learning materials for schools from kindergarten to grade 12. Its curriculum, assessment and professional learning products reach more than 50 million students and over 4 million educators across 150 countries. The Boston based company has been privately held since 2022, when Veritas Capital acquired it in a deal valued at about $2.8 billion and took it off the Nasdaq.

What the centre will do

The Pune team works on the digital platforms and software that sit underneath HMH’s classroom offerings, from engineering to the technology that helps teachers track student progress and tailor instruction. The new office is set up for hybrid work, with collaborative spaces and room to add people. The company has said it plans to keep investing in local engineering talent and to give the centre a larger share of its global product development work. The India operation is led by Jaya Wadhwani, senior vice president of software engineering and country manager for HMH Tech India.

Why Pune

Pune offers a deep pool of software engineers and a long track record of hosting product development teams for foreign technology firms. Shivaji Nagar sits close to the older commercial heart of the city, a different choice from the large tech parks on its fringes. A centre that grew from nothing to around 300 people in three years needed space that could keep pace, and Pune’s office market gave HMH that option without leaving the city where its team was built. More on the city’s capability centres is on our Pune GCC page.

HMH’s India footprint

HMH set up its Pune centre in May 2023 as a hub for technology and engineering work. In roughly three years it has become a team of about 300, which explains why the earlier premises no longer fit. Pune is the company’s only confirmed capability centre in India.

What it signals

Education technology firms have moved more of their core product engineering to India as their offerings shift from print to software. HMH’s rapid build in Pune fits that pattern, and the decision to seat only part of its team at once points to a hybrid model rather than a full return to office.
