Chubb Signs MoU for First Global Capability Centre in Chennai

Chubb will open its first Global Capability Centre in Chennai after signing an MoU with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state investment agency, in July 2026. The insurer expects to create about 220 skilled jobs in the centre’s first phase. The deal was signed in the presence of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as part of a wider round of investment commitments in the state.

Chubb is the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer. Headquartered in Zurich, it has a physical presence in 54 countries and territories, and its parent company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Its business covers commercial and personal property and casualty cover, personal accident and supplemental health, reinsurance and life insurance.

What the centre will do

The Chennai centre will support analytics, engineering, enterprise technology and global business functions. Three areas stand out. The first is predictive risk analytics, where AI and machine learning are used for risk assessment and fraud detection. The second is insurance technology architecture, building secure, highly available cloud platforms and digital applications. The third is process optimisation across the regulated markets Chubb serves.

Early openings in the city span data associates, data scientists, analysts and principal engineers.

Why Chennai

Chennai gives Chubb a fourth Indian city and a fresh talent market in engineering and data roles, beyond its existing hubs. Tamil Nadu has been actively courting capability centres through Guidance Tamil Nadu, and the state presented Chubb as one of several global firms setting up in the state for the first time.

Chubb’s India footprint

Chubb announced its India business services centre in 2019, starting in Hyderabad and Bengaluru with more than 100 roles that brought previously outsourced technology and actuarial support work in house. Since then the operation has grown into the Chubb Engineering Center India, which the company describes as the largest engineering centre in its global network. Its teams now work from Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar and drive technology led digital transformation for Chubb businesses around the world.

What it signals

Global insurers have steadily moved engineering and analytics work to India, and Chubb is now spreading its base across more cities rather than packing it into one or two. Adding Chennai spreads talent risk and taps a deep engineering market. For Tamil Nadu, landing a large financial services name strengthens its pitch against Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
