Mizuho Financial Group has set up a new technology and operations hub in Pune, announced in May 2026. The centre is run by Mizuho Global Services India, the group’s capability centre arm, and will support group platforms, shared services and round the clock global operations. It joins the unit’s existing sites in Navi Mumbai and Chennai.
Mizuho is one of Japan’s three largest banking groups. It was formed in 2000 through the merger of Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Fuji Bank and the Industrial Bank of Japan, and traces its roots back to 1873. Headquartered in Tokyo, the group employs roughly 60,000 people and offers banking, securities, trust and asset management services through its subsidiaries, with offices in more than 100 locations outside Japan.
What the centre will do
The Pune centre brings technology, operations and business services together on one platform. Its work spans engineering, banking operations, data analytics, risk and compliance support, enterprise platforms, and AI and automation projects. The group wants teams in Pune to take ownership of critical platforms and speed up modernisation, while providing continuous support for operations across time zones. Mizuho has not disclosed a headcount or hiring target for the site.
Why Pune
Pune has a large engineering and banking technology workforce, and it sits close enough to the group’s Navi Mumbai operation to work as a natural extension of it. The city has become one of the fastest growing markets for capability centres in financial services and engineering. Senior Mizuho technology leadership in the Americas has pointed to Pune’s scale and talent as the reasons behind the choice. Our page on GCCs in Pune tracks the other companies setting up there.
Mizuho’s India footprint
Mizuho Global Services India was incorporated in March 2020 and is held by Mizuho Bank. It handles transaction, settlement and back office banking work, builds and maintains technology platforms, and runs shared services such as HR, finance and administration for Mizuho offices and group companies worldwide. Separately, Mizuho Bank has branches in several Indian cities, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, and has long running partnerships with State Bank of India and Tata Capital.
What it signals
A third Indian site within six years of setting up its capability centre arm marks a clear step up for Mizuho. The focus on owning platforms and running operations around the clock suggests the group sees India as a core engine for its global technology rather than a cost saving outpost.
