Ford Business Solutions, the global capability centre arm of Ford Motor Company, opened a new office at SVB Tech Park in Coimbatore on 8 July 2026. The 82,000 sq ft site spans three floors and can seat more than 800 people, with over 600 expected to work there from the start. The Tamil Nadu Industries Minister inaugurated the facility.
Ford is one of the largest carmakers in the United States, and its global business runs on a large back office and engineering network. In India that network is Ford Business Solutions, which has built its capabilities over roughly 25 years and today employs more than 12,000 people. The unit kept growing even after Ford stopped manufacturing cars in India in August 2022, a sign of how central its Indian teams have become to the company’s worldwide operations.
What the centre will do
Coimbatore has been set up chiefly as a business continuity centre. Most of its staff come from accounting, Ford Credit and business operations, and the site will also house teams working on credit, treasury, finance, technology and data analytics. Each floor carries more than 230 workstations along with boardrooms, collaboration booths and focus rooms, and the layout is built for hybrid work. The aim is simple: if work at a primary site is disrupted, critical global functions keep running from here.
Why Coimbatore
The choice ties directly to Ford’s larger centre in Chennai. Placing a second Tamil Nadu site a few hundred kilometres inland gives the company a fallback if weather or any other disruption hits the coastal city, while keeping both offices within the same state and talent pool. Ford pointed to its confidence in Coimbatore’s talent base, and the state government has been actively courting capability centres in the city as part of its push to spread this work beyond Chennai. Ford’s India footprint
Coimbatore is the third India office for Ford Business Solutions. Its anchor is the Global Technology and Business Centre in Chennai, which handles software development, computer aided engineering and design support for vehicles sold worldwide, including the F Series, Explorer, Transit and Ranger. The second is a Technology Incubation Centre in Bengaluru. Gangapriya Chakraverti serves as managing director and India site head of Ford Business Solutions. The unit has worked with the Tamil Nadu government for more than 25 years.
What it signals
Ford’s move shows Indian capability centres maturing from cost centres into operations that global companies cannot afford to lose. Building a dedicated continuity site is a decision firms make only when the work done in India is mission critical. It also points to tier two cities such as Coimbatore gaining ground as companies look for resilience and fresh talent outside the crowded metros.
