UBS opened a new office at Centaurus by Phoenix in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, in February 2026, with plans to sharply increase its headcount in the city. The bank said it expects to hire about 2,000 more people in the coming months, enough to double its Hyderabad workforce, with the total expected to approach 3,000 over two years.
Headquartered in Zurich, UBS is one of the world’s leading wealth managers and the largest universal bank in Switzerland, with asset management and investment banking arms. It has offices in more than 50 markets, employs over 107,000 people and held invested assets of more than $7 trillion at the end of 2025. Its shares trade in Zurich and New York.
What the centre will do
The Hyderabad office supports the group’s global technology, finance and operations work. Matthias Schacke, who heads the India Service Company and the Group Operations and Technology Office India, said the bank plans to build out its technology capabilities, including artificial intelligence, and widen its operations base in the city. UBS has not disclosed the floor area or seat count.
Why Hyderabad
UBS has worked from Hyderabad since 2020, and Schacke pointed to the city’s talent pool, supportive state policy and infrastructure as the reasons to grow there. Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu attended the opening and framed the decision as a long term partnership linking India, Europe and Switzerland. The bank also pointed to the trade and economic partnership agreement between India and Switzerland as a further tailwind. More on the city’s GCC base is on our Hyderabad GCC page.
UBS’s India footprint
UBS has run teams in India for more than a decade, with centres in Pune, Navi Mumbai and Hyderabad. After it took over Credit Suisse in a state backed rescue in 2023, the bank folded the two firms’ Indian service entities into UBS Business Solutions (India), a process completed in April 2025 that left it with about 24,000 people across Mumbai and Pune. In January 2026 it also leased an entire office tower in Pune’s Yerwada.
What it signals
The expansion lands while UBS trims staff at home, where about 3,000 Swiss roles are expected to go, mostly through attrition. The bank has not linked the two moves. Still, the pattern is familiar across European banking: as integration costs bite, more technology and operations work moves to large Indian hubs, and Hyderabad is winning a growing share.
