Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Electronics to support the establishment and ramp-up of India’s first commercial 300mm semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat.
Under the agreement, ASML will supply its lithography tools and solutions for the facility and work with Tata Electronics on domestic talent development, supply chain building, and R&D infrastructure.
Christophe Fouquet, President and CEO of ASML, said the company is committed to establishing long-term partnerships in India and views the country’s expanding semiconductor sector as presenting significant opportunities.
The Dholera fab represents a planned investment of $11 billion by Tata Electronics. The plant will serve automotive, mobile, and AI applications across process nodes from 28nm to 110nm, with technology access provided through an existing partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. Construction is currently underway.
ASML’s involvement covers the full ramp cycle — from initial equipment deployment through yield optimisation — and extends to training local engineers in lithography-intensive skills. The partnership positions ASML as a foundational equipment supplier in what would be India’s first large-scale commercial chip manufacturing facility.
The MoU was signed jointly in The Hague and Mumbai.
